Detailed itinerary
The outlined itinerary is absolutely flexible and can be adapted at any time depending on personal condition and saddle strength.
Star-Ride: 7-day itinerary
Day 1
Start your journey by meeting our herd. We’ll begin with a relaxed session in the arena to pair you with the horse that best matches your riding style and personality. After a short introduction to our Western riding techniques, and if you feel comfortable, we will head out on our first trail ride (2 hours). This wil give you the opportunity to discover the beautiful surrounding of Koiimasis on the saddle. After lunch, we set off again for our second trail ride, exploring another side of the ranch and taking in the vast landscapes of southern Namibia. Along the way, a little rock climbing through one of the valleys ads an adventurous touch to the afteroon.Riding Time: Approx. 3-4 hours.
Day 2
Today, we climb to a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the ranch and the Namib desert. From here, the immense open spaces for which Namibia is famous, stretch out before you. On top, next to the famous quiver trees, we will stop for a lunch break and some time to take in the scenery. This trail allows us long open canters through the wide savannah landscape. We will return to the ranch in the early afternoon. In the evening, we leave by vehicle in search of the wild horses, living freely in their natural environment. As the sun sets, enjoy a drink while learning more about the ranch, its horses and its unique beeding philosophy.Riding Time: Approx. 4-6 hours
Day 3
Today, you leave Koiimasis behind and make your way to the neighbouring farm Landsberg. Our ride takes us through the mountains to a meeting point, where Addie Izko will become your guide for the next few days. She willl lead you onwards to a beautiful lunch spot, offering a different perspective of the ranch and surrounding landscape. In the early afternoon, you will arrive at Landsberg, where your luggage will already be waiting at your accomodation. As evening falls, you gather for a traditional Namibian braai – a relaxed barbecue under the open sky.Riding Time: Approx. 4-6 hours
Day 4
After a relaxed breakfast, you head out to explore the rugged mountains of Landsberg in search of mountain zebras and other game. Surrounded by the mountains, you will have the opportunity to learn more about Namibia, its wildlife and the unique way of life in this remote part of the country. Lunch will be enjoyed along the trail before you return to Landsberg in the afternoon for another peaceful evening on the farm.Riding Time: Approx. 4-6 hours
Day 5
Today, you say goodbye to Landsberg and make your way back on horseback to the border of Koiimasis, where we take over again. The ride takes us through the beautiful landscape before bringing us back to the ranch. The afternoon is yours to relax and recharge. You have the opportunity to relax, enjoy the pool or get a drink at the Lodge.Riding Time: Approx. 2-3 hours
Day 6
This day offers a true taste of ranch life. In the morning, you will have the opportunity to work with cattle and learn fundamentals of livestock herding. Together, we will move the herd across the ranch’s vast plains and into the corral for inspection. In the late afternoon, we saddle up once again for an approximately 1.5- hour ride to Kanaan campsite, bringing us closer to the edge of the Namib desert. The horses will spend the night in a spacious paddock. Your luggange, tents, bedding and dinner are prepared at the campsite. As evening falls, you will enjoy an unforgettable African sunset.Riding Time: Approx. 1.5 hours
Day 7
We raise early for our once-in-a-lifetime ride towards the dunes of Kanaan. Setting out before sunrise, we ride towards the edge of the Namib desert. Along the way, there is a good chance of encountering large herds of oryx roaming freely across the landscape. Around midday, the horses will be loaded onto the truck at the Kanaan campsite. After a quick snack, we return by vehicle to the ranch, where you will have some time to relax. In the late afternoon, we head out once more for some rock climbing and jumping with the horses. The spectacular location provides the perfect backdrop for unforgettable photographs. A short final ride takes us to the sundowner hill, where we watch the sun slowly disappear behind the mountains. We end the journey with a traditional braai – the perfect farewell to an extraordinary riding adventure.Riding Time: Approx. 4-6 hours
Atlantic Coast: 10-day itinerary
Day 1-6
Days 1-6 of the ride remain largely unchanged. However, the evening programme on Day 6 will be adjusted: the sundowner ride will take place in the late afternoon. We will head out for an adventurous session of rock climbing and jumping with the horses, offering incredible opportunities for photographs against the Namibian landscape. A short ride will then take us to the sundowner hill, where we can enjoy the African sunset. The evening ends with a traditional braai under the African sky.
Day 7
Early in the morning, the horses will be loaded onto the truck and we will travel south towards the edge of the Namib desert. From here, we begin our ride into the iconic red dunes. We will guide you through the soft, rolling sands, surrounded by the striking contrast of desert landscapes and the Tiras mountains. After the ride, the horses will be loaded back onto the truck and we continue our journey towards the charming, German-influenced coastal town of Lüderitz. Upon arrival, we check into our accommodation before gathering for dinner at a local restaurant to celebrate the beginning of our Atlantic adventure.
Day 8
We’ll set off early in the morning, saddling up for a ride along the Atlantic coast. We’ll guide you from the expansive southwest bay of the peninsula toward its tip, known as Diaz Point. Here, we’ll reach a long beach with shallow, inviting waters - the perfect spot for us to go splashing into the waves with the horses. It’s a rare and exhilarating experience to feel the contrast of the desert horses meeting the cool Atlantic spray. The afternooon is free for you to explore Lüderitz, relax and enjoy the coastal atmosphere before we meet again for dinner.
Day 9
We’ll start our morning on one of Lüderitz’s most breathtaking beaches. The combination of gentle waves and soft, open sand creates the perfect setting for us to enjoy long, exhilarating gallops along the water's edge. As we explore the bay, we’ll come across a whale skull and other weathered relics - quiet reminders of the whaling station that once operated on these shores. Once we’ve safely stabled the horses, we’ll head back to the hotel to refresh. Note: If you are interested, you can join a catamaran cruise to Halifax Island at additional cost. The excursion offers the chance to see local penguin colony, dolphins and flamingos. The riding programme will remain unchanged, however, the morning ride will start later to accommodate the cruise.
Day 10
Before beginning our journey back to Koiimasis, you will have the opportunity to explore Kolmanskop, the famous abandoned diamond-mining town that is slowly being reclaimed by the surrounding desert. After this interesting glimpse into Namibian’s history, we continue our journey back to Koiimasis, arriving in the afternoon. Here, your unique riding adventure comes to an end. The following day, you wil be driven back to Windhoek, or you can continue onwards to your next Namibian adventure.
